Materials Manager | Kentwood, MI

Salary Range: $84,000 - $124,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement material planning, procurement, and inventory control strategies.
• Manage and optimize inventory levels to ensure production continuity while minimizing carrying costs.
• Oversee supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management for raw materials and components.
• Lead and mentor the materials planning and purchasing teams.
• Collaborate with production, sales, and engineering to align material availability with manufacturing schedules.
• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to material acquisition, storage, and logistics.
• Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies in material management.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proven experience (5+ years) in materials management, supply chain, or procurement within a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., APICS CSCP, CPIM) preferred.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for inventory planning, forecasting, and production scheduling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on inventory optimization and cost reduction.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills for managing teams and supplier relationships.

Bonus Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency with specific ERP modules (e.g., SAP MM, Oracle SCM).
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt).
• Experience with international sourcing, import/export, and global logistics.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced data analytics for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
